Hollywood's Illinois-born actress, screenwriter, singer, and songwriter Karen Black, who played leading roles in 1970s films has died at cancer at a clinic in Los Angeles at her age of 74. This morning Karen's husband Stephen Eckelberry wrote on his Facebook page: "It is with great sadness that I have to report that my wife and best friend, Karen Black has just passed away, only a few minutes ago. Thank you all for all your prayers and love, they meant so much to her as they did to me." According to her husband Stephen Eckelberry, she died from complications as she was being treated for cancer. Karen Black was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in November 2010 and the news made headlines earlier this year after turning to the internet to help fund her medical treatment. She and her husband raised about $62,000 (£40,000), according to her fundraising page at Facebook.
Black who was also a screenwriter and a playwright married four times and last tied her life's knot with Stephen Eckelberry in the year 1987. Karen who's known for her performances in Five Easy Pieces and Nashville breakthrough as a prostitute in 1960's Easy Rider. She earned an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe award for her role as Rayette Dipesto in the 1970 film Five Easy Pieces as the best supporting actress. She also played a prominent role as a country singer in the ensemble cast of Robert Altman's 1975's musical drama Nashville. Karen also won another best supporting actress Golden Globe award for the role of mistress Myrtle Wilson in her 1974's movie, The Great Gatsby. The Hollywood star known for playing temperamental and neurotic characters appeared in more than 100 films during her 40-year long career on the Hollywood big screen.
Karen Black who was diagnosed with cancer three years ago died at West Hills Health & Rehab Center of Los Angeles . Karen had a son named Hunter Carson with two daughters named Celine Eckelberry and Diane Koehnemann as she passed away. After the news of her death spread across the world, her dozens of fans started pouring their tributes through social media weapons like Twitter and Facebook.
