Legendary actor Shashi Kapoor passes away

Veteran Indian film industry legend Shashi Kapoor has died at the age of 79 after several years of kidney problems. Shashi Kapoor who is known as one of the finest actors of his time took his last breath at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. According to Dr Ram Narain from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Shashi Kapoor expired at 5.20 PM on December 4 . 

Actor Shashi Kapoor’s acting career started as a child actor in the 1940s and 50s acting in plays directed and produced by his father Prithviraj Kapoor & dubuted in the award-winning 1961 film Dharmputra.  In a career spanning decades, Shashi tried different flavour of characters that Bollywood had to offer, however the veteran actor is well-known for his roles in films like 'Deewaar' (1975), 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' (1978), 'Junoon' (1978), 'Shaan' (1980), and 'Namak Halaal' (1982). The actor appeared in more than 175 films during the '70s and until the mid '80s and dabbled in direction and production too. He also appeared in several English-language films, such as The Householder, Shakespeare Wallah, Bombay Talkie, and Heat and Dust.  Kapoor who has dominated the Hindi film industry for decades also stars some of the most popular romantic songs in the history of Hindi cinema. 

In 2015, Shashi Kapoor was given the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema. The actor who won several national film awards including the Padma Bhushan award which is the second-highest civilian award of the Republic of India, cut back his acting work in the mid-1980s after the death of his wife Jennifer Kendal who died  from cancer in 1984. A number of people around the globe, including actors and politicians have expressed their grief on social media on his demise.
