What is cancer? The simple definition for cancer is the abnormal growth of human cells. Every Year World Cancer Day is celebrated annually on 4th of February to deepen our understanding about the deadly cancer; however the primary goal of the World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness & death caused by cancer by the year 2020. Every year this day aims to save millions of preventable deaths by raising awareness & education about cancer, pressing governments & individuals across the world to take action against the deadly cancer. The theme of World Cancer Day 2015 is "Not beyond us".

World Cancer Day was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, written in 2008. The World Cancer Declaration 2008 is a tool to help cancer advocates bring the growing cancer crisis to the attention of health policymakers at national, regional and global levels. Founded in the year 1933, UICC is a membership based non-governmental organization that exists to help the global health community accelerate the fight against cancer with the organization’s growing membership of over 760 organizations across 155 countries around the world. According to World Health Organization, there are around 100 types of cancer. The most common types of cancer for men are: Lung, esophagus, stomach, oral & pharyngeal cancers. The most common types of cancer for woman are: Cervix & breast cancers. This year World Cancer Day campaign will mainly focus on 4 key areas; choosing healthy lives, delivering early detection, achieving treatment for all & maximizing the quality of life.

According to WHO statistics, each year globally, about 14 million people learn they have cancer, and 8 million people die from the disease. However some recent researches have suggested that one-third of cancer deaths can still be prevented from cancer. Every year 4th February, the World Cancer Day is a unique opportunity for countries to raise awareness at an individual, community & governmental level, to harness & mobilize the deadly epidemic cancer disease.
