The first visit to the Maldives by a Palestinian president

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has arrived Male' City today (17th April Tuesday)  for visit to the Republic of Maldives, as part of his current Asian tour which included Japan, Thailand and Sri Lanka. President of Palestine, Dr Mahmoud Abbas, arrived in the Maldives this afternoon. Upon his arrival Palestinian President was received by Maldives’ President Mohammed Waheed Hassan Manik from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. President Abbas is in Maldives on a two-day state visit after spending two days in Sri Lanka. Mahmoud Abbas who arrived this afternoon on a two day official visit to the Maldives, is the first Palestinian President who arrived Maldives since 1984. When Mr. Abbas had arrived to Male' City for the official talks and press conference, he was welcomed by various colorful cultural activities presented by School students at the Republic Square. During the two day visit to Maldives, the Palestinian President will meet the re-instated President of the Maldives Dr. Mohamed Waheed, Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Abdullah Shahid and former President and the leader of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Also official talks were held between both  countries this afternoon.
