The government will take actions based on the demands of the opposition protesters who joined demonstration in the will "to defend Islam” at 23rd of this month, and the government is thinking forward to ban the use of alcohol and pork nationwide says the President's Press Secretary Mohamed Zuhair yesterday. Zuhair revealed it on a press conference held yesterday evening at the president’s office. Zuhair noted that 5 demands were put forward at the protest organized by the civil society coalition with the opposition parties. Zuhair confirmed that the government will always listen and act upon the concerns raised by the people of Maldives.
Furthermore he said that as the protesters has suspected the spas and the massage parlors across the country do help as centers for prostitution, government is in the journey of ranking and inspecting such places to check if any such illegal actions are ongoing in such places.” Even now we have closed some places which are said to be centers for such illegal actions, after the inspection we will ban and close all the spas and massage parlors across the country nationwide said Zuhair at the press conference. The protesters called the government for major 5 demands at the 23rd December demonstration. They were removing the SAARC monuments at Addu, closing down the massage parlours and spas in the country plus taking back the decision on declaring areas of inhabited islands uninhabited in order to permit alcohol sale, not allowing Israeli airlines to operate flights to Maldives and as for the last condemning UN human rights high commissioner Mrs Navinetham Pillay’s comments about Islamic Sharia. Zuhair concluded the press conference saying that this government would fully listen and act according to the demands raised at the nationwide demonstrations held at 23rd December 2011 by the opposition protesters and the civil society coalition.
