Ramadan of this year 2014 has started today on June 29th Sunday. Ramadan is the month in which the holy Quran was sent as a guide to mankind as clear signs for guidance and judgment between right and wrong for human beings.

The word Ramadan means intense scorching heat and dryness especially the ground. This word is derived from an Arabic word called “Ramida”. Fasting the whole month of Ramadan purifies our thoughts and intentions. It also carries many good things like the healing of the soul, the body and the spirit. Fasting is one of the five pillars of the religion Islam and represents a form of worship to Allah. Also Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Each day during this holy month of the year, Muslims all around the world abstain from eating, drinking, sex, smoking, as well as participating in all acts that is excessive in the religion Islam; from dawn until the sun sets.

After a month of fasting, Maldivians will celebrate Eid-ul-Fithr with millions of Muslim across the world. To all of my Muslim Brothers and Sisters may this year’s Ramadan usher in a new era of Peace and light of hope? May Allah bestow his pleasure on us, and may he shine each of our steps and lighten our path and guide us in this year’s Ramadan. May the light that we celebrate at Ramadan show us the way & lead us together on the path of peace & social harmony. Once again I wish Ramadan Mubarak to all the Muslims across the globe and bestow Allah’s blessings upon all of us including my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters who are following & judging my articles of this blog.
