Former two Presidents of Maldives, Mr. Gayyoom & Mr. Nasheed pays tribute to South Africa's first black President who died on 5th of Thursday 2013. The two leaders paid tribute to Mandela in their recent tweets via their official twitter account.

Mr. Gayoom continued to serve as leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP),
then opposition party, until January 2010, when Gayoom retired from
active politics. However, in September 2011, Mr. Gayyoom returned to Maldivian
politics as the leader of the then newly formed party, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Mr. Gayyoom was the President of Maldives from 1978 to 2008, exactly 30 years to the day that he first came to power.

Mr. Mohamed Nasheed who is one of the founder members of MDP and the first ever democratically elected President defeated Mr. Gayyoom in the Presidential run-off which was held at October 2008 and served as the fourth President of the Maldives from 2008 to 2012. On 7 February 2012 Mohamed Nasheed resigned in front of local media from his presidency under disputed circumstances, following weeks of protests by the opposition which had then been joined by majority of military and police forces. Nelson Mandela who served 27 years at prison was elected as the President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. Mandela who is famous as "Madiba" died at his home at Johannesburg at the age of 95.
