The new Chairman of NSPA has said that the new
government of President Dr. Waheed is to form the Social Health Scheme
according to the law soon. In an interview given to “Haveeru Online” which was
published last Tuesday at 10th April 2012, Thoriq Ali Luthufee said
that the government will decide whether to launch a new health scheme instead
of Aasandha or to fix Aasandha according to the Social Health
Insurance law. “It was not signed by us to give the service of Aasandha. So we even do not know who
the guardian of Aasandha is” said
Thoriq the Chairman of National Social Protection Agency. In the interview to
Haveeru Online Thoriq further said that, the former government’s Aasandha is not formed under the Social
Health Insurance law which was passed by the Majlis. Thoriq stated that in
order to give the health service free to all the people of Maldives, Aasandha has been launched before the
Insurance law was ratified by the former President Nasheed and the agreement
between the government and Aasandha
Private Limited was not according how the Social Health Insurance law states. Chairman
Thoriq said that the verse no: 4 of Health Insurance law states that Social
Health Insurance Scheme has to be established accordingly under a policy
decided by Health Insurance Agency of the country.
